I don't know much about this, not being a parent myself, so I can't say much.
I will say that most folks seem to me to spend way less time with their kids than they should. Segregating children into institutions all day also seems like a bad idea.
Wendell Berry said, agriculture is how we "enact our dependence on the land." It should be sacred and integral, instead it's commercialized and degenerative. We are making progress but the essential I-and-Thou stance is still widely lacking.
