Unicode is a conflation of two ideas, one good and useful, the other born of hubris.
The good idea is to have a standard mapping between the little drawings we use to communicate and numbers. That way we can unambiguously refer to them in our computer systems.
The hubristic idea is encoding all human writing methods. This turns out to be a much more involved undertaking.
I think that each language should be studied on its own, and have its own specialized libraries for editing and representation.
